Apart from the burgers place I have introduced in this post, I will share some other places for a bite in Eindhoven I have been trying out. If you live in Eindhoven, I think you already know some of them, as Eindhoven is not that big of a city.
I will only list the website of the places, so you can check the location and contact details simply by visiting their websites.
Same as the previous post, from a scale of 1 to 5, 1 being the lowest, 5 being the highest.○ means one point, and ● means half point
Wiesen is a one Michelin star restaurant in the city center of Eindhoven. They mainly focus on recognizable products that stimulate the pallet. We went here to celebrate my graduation in 2013. We went there with a group of 5, 4 of them ordered the 4 course chef’s menu I ordered the lobster linguine. At the time we visited Wiesen it did not receive its Michelin star yet. All in all the food was honest and good food, the lobster tasted fresh and the sauce was rich. The four course chef’s menu was accompanied with wine and was a variety of local produce combined with French and Mediterranean flavours. As you can expect from a place like this the service was good and adequate. It had the right amount of warmth and hospitability without being too informal. There were however some negative points to Wiesen, all of us left the restaurant without being fully satisfied. All courses tasted well but were nothing special, it didn’t amaze us. Next to that we all believed they should have given us more food. Nevertheless, it was a nice dinner which we all enjoyed. For 5 people we paid around €450 that included everything.
Bram and I celebrated our 4th year anniversary together at 1910. It was our 2nd “fancy” dinner experience in Eindhoven. We both had a 4 course chef’s menu, Bram had accompanying wines to the courses. Our menu started with a salmon tartar with white asparagus and 4 different preparations of cucumber. This was a great dish it tasted fresh, new and really got our taste buds excited. The second course was a seabass with acini de pepe and spinach. Acini de pepe is a very small ball formed pasta, it is absolutely delicious. Our main course was lambs rack with a gravy and seasonal veggies, I personally don’t like lamb when it’s still bloody in the center but Bram loves it. The gravy was rich and the seasonal veggies accompanied the lamb perfectly. It was a very good spring dish! Finally, dessert! They served us 4 different preparations of strawberry: pickled, a Bavarian cream, a foam and dried strawberry. Normally Bram and I don’t like sweet desserts and tend to skip dessert and go straight for coffee or tea. However, this dessert was great, it had sweetness, acidity and interesting flavours. To sum up, 1910 is a lovely place the service is wonderful and make you feel at home. We paid around €120 which in my opinion is the right amount of money for what we got. I would definitely recommend people to go to 1910!
Giornale opened its door in Eindhoven in 2015. Giornale’s concept is based on so-called “food sharing”, which is again based on the Spanish tapas concept. We went there with 6 persons in total, and it is a very suitable place to gather with friends. The food sharing concept allows you to order several times and each time your order several small dishes. So everybody can have a piece and you can have as much as you want to. I have to say, the atmosphere is better than the food. The food is pretty good, but some dishes have a very similar taste so in the end it gets a bit dull and repetitive. Also in my opinion, it is a relatively expensive place for what you get. In total, with drinks and desserts, we paid about €44 per person. Of course the drinks are always expensive in a restaurant, but we also ordered a lot of food. So in general I would say 30-40 per person is enough for a decent meal at Giornale.
Butler’s table is also a new place in Eindhoven that opened officially in 2015. It is a combination of a restaurant and a shop. You can literally buy everything they have in the shop including tables, lamps, wine etc. We went there for lunch on a sunny Saturday and were amazed by the quality of the food. Bram ordered a sandwich with cod, and I ordered a salad. Everything is freshly prepared and the price is fairly cheap. We paid €24 in total for food and drinks. I haven’t tried the dinner yet, but I heard the dinner is very good as well.
Lunchroom De Binnenstad
The place looks quite posh, but the price aren’t 🙂 I know a lot of people often get scared by how a restaurant look. You automatically assume a posh looking place will have a very expensive menu. Well, not necessarily. We went here multiple times for breakfast and lunch. Some of the food they make themselves, and some of them are from other suppliers this is clearly indicated on the menu. The cakes and sandwiches are very good here. Keep in mind that De Binnenstad is closed on Sundays.
Vascobelo V-Bar Eindhoven
Newly opened its door in 2015 as well. We went here for breakfast and I highly recommend it. As you can see, I am a big breakfast fan! So I like to go out for breakfast often in the weekends. I think the first meal of the day is very important and gives you the energy to keep you going for the rest of the day. That’s why I always like to go for a breakfast, which a lot of people seem not to understand… Anyway, I don’t really drink coffee so I ordered the tea in my breakfast menu, turns out it was great. You can taste it is not some kind of cheap supermarket teabag, but actual good quality tea leaves. Bram said the coffee is really good as well. Surprisingly they also give a big glass of fresh orange juice while other places would offer half what V-Bar gives. Puffed pastries are warmed up before they are served and they are comparable to Michel, or maybe even better, the cured ham and sourdough bread are of good quality as well. You must want to know the price, we paid €25 for two persons which I think isn’t that much for a good breakfast. I will definitely go back there.
Mangiare is a very popular Italian place at Kleine Berg. The atmosphere is great, and the food is also pretty decent. However, I think it is a bit on the expensive side. We paid for a shared starter (bruschetta) and two plates of pasta (duck confit, and shrimps) almost €70. However, the atmosphere is that great I will just go back there!
De Karseboom Eetcafe
I have had dinner at De Karseboom for about 4 times in total. They serve real honest food here it is a bistro/home-cooking restaurant. They have weekly specials and also change their menu regularly. Service is really good. Starters are below 10 Euro and main dishes are about 15 Euro, so it is really not expensive.
One of the most popular and famous Italian food chains there is in the Netherlands came to Eindhoven in 2015. (WOW, a lot of new places opened in 2015!) It is self-service so I couldn’t really rate the service. At Vapiano they cook and make everything from scratch, so it is trustworthy and good food. Unlike some other food chains where you have no idea how many E-numbers they put into your food. The place is very spacious in Eindhoven, two floors plus a roof terrace. It is a lovely place to hang out and have a quick bite when you don’t feel like cooking. On Average you spend 15 Euro p.p. on a pasta/pizza/salad, drinks, and dessert.
